Invisible intends to start a conversation on the notions of exoticism, Orientalism, otherness, hybridism and the western perceptions of a homogenous Islamic cultural identity.
The video features elements of Ebru, the Turkish marbling technique developed in 15th century Persia, and Middle Eastern calligraphy with a contemporary examination. The amalgamation of cultural symbolism from east and west prompts a multi-layered work both in form and meaning. The video embraces performative acts of small gestures, processes and repetition prevalent in Islamic art.
