Page is a video installation which aims to reflect on the current arguments about War. My work on Page began with a book that I found at a flea market. The title War Nurse attracted my attention immediately and I decided to take this book out of the dusty bookshelf. Rolling its pages and sealing them with resin; hand-writing the book on ribbons which hung from the ceiling; and making an ink transfer of certain paragraphs of the book on satin fabric which the video is projected onto, all serve as antecedents to my continued exploration of the themes of history, memory, absence, love and longing. Each medium aforementioned in the installation including the video is my effort to bring the book back to life by giving it a different form. Piece by piece each medium also creates a whole, and the space becomes the book itself.
The work draws on the fact that the concept of love has been universally important throughout the history of mankind. Through the combination of installation and subject matter, I intend to create multiple layers of paradox that come together in the work to create a unified whole, bridging past and present.
